Which books are you readers buying?

By Tangotiger, 11:55 AM

First, a reminder that if you make an Amazon purchase, use the link on the top left of any page.  Do that whether you buy The Book or you buy an iPod.  We get referral fees from Amazon, at no cost to you.  It’s win-win.  We get enough to pay for the admin expenses, and this year there was an extra 100$ as our profit.  So, it works out wonderfully.  Just keep making your Amazon purchases through this site.  So, thank you so much for your support.  That’s all you need to do to keep this site going.

Now, Amazon gives us a report of what is being bought (but not who… don’t worry, whoever bought the Julie/Julia DVD… your secret is safe with Amazon).  There were 324 items purchased through our site, and 21 of them were bought by more than one person.  Here are those top books purchased, along with all sports-related books:

Fascinating!  I forget whether I bought my copy of Weaver on Strategy through here on not.  That one might be me.

Cool.  I bought 6 of the top 7 books on that list from Amazon, but didn’t know about the referral thing.  I’ll use it in the future.

I would also urge folks who make use of Tango and MGLs data and work and also happen to have amazon links to use their amazon ID on your site. Just copy and paste their link on your site’s link.

Huh, six people bought “Watching Baseball Smarter”? It’s something I might be interested in; is it any good? I mean, it’s by that lame dude who catches fly balls at games. That’s not encouraging.

Oh and The Big Short is awesome (Lewis). Buy it now!

Actually, looks like it’s for kids. Forget it.

Tom, is there a Amazon.com home page URL that I can use that will still keep you as referrer?

#8    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2010/03/17 (Wed) @ 16:06

We can set up an Amazon home page?  In your profile on Amazon, or in your browser?

All you have to do is click the Amazon link at the top left, and that’s going to work as the referrer link.

Great idea actually.  I’m going to add that Amazon link onto my google homepages.

No one bought anything but baseball/sports books through our link?  Or you just listed the sports related ones?

If I use our link for Kindle book purchases (which I make a lot), for example, we still get a cut? Any purchase from Amazon?  A toaster?  A bench saw?  Porn DVD’s?

#10    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2010/03/17 (Wed) @ 20:21

It looks like ebooks are excluded.  I’m not sure though.

There were 324 items purchased, and I only listed those with 2+ purchases, and any sports books.

MGL: thanks for your continued support!

Good to know about the referral link.

After the steamer projection project is done I think I’m going to do some sabermetric reading with my two high school research kids.  I initially thought Curveball, now I’m thinking Mathletics (which I haven’t read) sounds like it’s at about the right level.  They’ve both read Moneyball already.  The Book might be too dense of a read although we could do a chapter at a time and work our way through.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Jared/11, I bumped a thread for you.

Thanks Mike.
