Pure, rational economics.  He’s no more a knuckle-head than the guy who declines to buy a lottery scratch ticket, only to watch the guy behind him in line buy it and win big.

I’d like to hear his odds of him still having a chance at winning, versus the satisfaction of making a wedding, and including the odds of not getting in traffic on the way to the wedding.

My guess is that he didn’t figure the odds, and he used his gut instincts (which are usually fine, but probably s-ck for such extreme scenarios).
