The most meaningful stat according to players is…

By Tangotiger, 11:07 AM

RBI.

And, they’re right.  If by “meaningful” it means “accolades, MVPs, and chicks”.  Number 2 is OBP, meaning that there are some players who have no hope of winning MVPs and took “meaningful” to mean “wins and playoffs”.  Number 3 is Batting Average, meaning that there are some players who have no idea what the heck they are talking about.  Number 4 is OPS, meaning that there are some players who know what the heck they are talking about.  8th is SLG right behind batting average with runners in scoring position.  A complete mess of answers.

Honestly, without qualifying the word “meaningful” or the whole question itself, the question is so vague that you can’t criticize the answers one iota.

I agree about money and accolades, but when I was an impressionable youth, Tom Glavine and Heather Locklear (I think) told me that chicks dig the longball.

And Ralph Kiner told me that home run hitters drive Caddilacs.

Step into it!

Great commercial, one of my favorites of all time.  Don’t forget Greg Maddux.  The sauna scene is interesting in hindsight - it’s amazing how physically gifted those guys were, while looking so far removed from what society typically views as physically gifted (big muscles, etc).

What I wonder is, who are the 11% who responded OPS?  That would mean 2-3 guys on each roster.  And do those 11% just “play dumb” to the media when they spout off their baseballplayer cliches?

No one said, “Park-adjusted and context-neutral Superlwts?” Maybe someday.

My 17 yo cousin is a pretty good high school prospect and an amateur sabermetrician.  If he makes it to the show....
