The most bizarre news conference you will ever see!

By , 01:39 AM

I’m pretty sure most of you have heard about the “Roger McDowell incident” at ATT&T/Pac Bell Stadium or whatever the heck it is called these days.

You may not have seen the bizarre dog and pony show by Gloria Allred and her client however.

http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true&mediaKey=c768a07d-3b51-4591-963e-3966a27b39b9

As if the news conference itself is not outrageous enough, check this out:

Allred explains how McDowell used homophobic slurs and simulated gay sex with a baseball bat.  She actually demonstrates the bat thing and reads from a paper what McDowell said, using words like “effing” and a “crude word for the rear end” (getting effed up the a**).  The point was that her client was sitting in the stands with his two 9 year-old daughters.  Clearly he had a right to be offended.  Now, here is the absolutely bizarre (unbelievably crazy) part, if you have not seen the video yet:

She reads from a piece of paper what McDowell said (his cusses and homophobic slurs, etc.) and twice in front of flashing cameras demonstrates McDowell’s simulated sex act with a baseball bat - but here is the kicker.  She does all that while flanked by her clients’ 9 year-old daughters!  At several points when she says “effing” and “crude word for a rear end” you can see the daughters stifling a smirk.  Now, I am no prude by any means, but is there not irony in this situation?  I’m truly flabbergasted by this news conference.  And what kind of a moronic parent lets his kids participate in this...I don’t even know what to call it…

Roger McDowell doesn’t get a pass on any of this because what the crap that fell out of his mouth was either reprehensible (the gay slurs) or so mind blowingly stupid that I can’t even fit it in my brain (kids don’t belong in the ballpark), but I don’t think the victim is going to come out of this looking good at all. That press conference was exploitative and creepy. I mean, can you imagine the conversation that went on before they went out there: “OK kids, the things that man said and did in front of you are so vile that we are going to sue him. To prove our point we are going to repeat everything that man said and did in front of you again. Because it was all so vile that it probably scarred you for life. Which is why you have to hear it all again. Got it?”

And, oh yeah, good luck at school tomorrow girls!

Of course, in no way shape or form am I trying to distract attention from the vile things that McDowell allegedly said. If they are even remotely true, I would fire him on the spot.

“And, oh yeah, good luck at school tomorrow girls!”

Exactly.  Every (rude) boy in their school with a pencil in his hand…

I’ll accept whatever is the punishment for going off topic, but as long as we’re discussing girls at school, check out this girl’s brilliant school project of acting pregnant.

That is just bizarre.  What was the one girl doing on the right holding a piece of paper? Did she make a statement?

At the end it kind of looks like Gloria is ‘getting off’ a little bit with the ‘simulation’.

And I don’t understand why McDowell being fired was not on her list of demands.

And while I realize that everyone is an individual, I don’t see why the kids would be ‘traumatized’ by the events. It’s more likely that they laugh about the incident in private.

But I would have left the kids out of the news conference, if I were the parent. I’m sure Allred had a tactical reason for them being there, but so what.

I’m guessing that by making these allegations public Gloria Allred calculates that the Braves will have no choice other than firing Roger McDowell.

NaOH/3: Fantastic experiment.  And great article too.  All the questions I had were answered by the writer.

When the video started, I could almost swear it was some sort of Saturday Night Live sketch, with the two twin girls, identically dressed, staring stone-faced at the lawyer. It was certainly surreal…

What a precedent this sets.  I can’t wait to hold my own news conference when another fan in the ballpark makes rude gestures.

when they asked her to show the bat going through the finger hole “one more time,” i lost it. how did the reporters and photographers there not bust out laughing?

that last part of the video was probably one of the funniest things i have ever seen. the super serious look on allred and that other guy’s face, oh man, i completely lost it.

i also love how allred said “end quotient”.
