Call for Abstracts

We encourage interested participants and analysts to submit a paper for presentation at the 2011 PITCHfx Summit.  Topics relating to PITCHf/x, HITf/x, COMMANDf/x and FIELDf/x are welcome.  Previous years included a lively group of speakers that delivered presentation topics including: Pitch Classification, Player Evaluation, Base running, Aerodynamics, and many, many more!  Further developments in those areas as well as new topics are encouraged.

Submissions are due: July 11th, 2011

Please submit abstracts and data sample requests to:

So.....  are you going to go?

#2    Brian Cartwright      (see all posts) 2011/06/18 (Sat) @ 05:40

This year I put aside money from my baseball proceeds, my wife has been looking forward to a weekend in SF...so we are a good chance at this time.

Greg = Waiting to find out what new data they are making available.  And you?

In a very brief conversation I had with people from SV a week or so ago, they told me they expect to release some “command f/x” data (tracking of the catcher’s mitt).  I would hope for more than that.  In particular, if they have made any progress tracking the full batted ball trajectory, I’d elbow my way to the front of the line to grab those data.

Alan - Yes, some ball tracking data would be great.  Or I’d settle for the 2008 season of Hit f/x data.  But Command F/x isn’t going to do it for me.

Be careful, I have elbows too.

I sent Graham (who’s handling data requests for th an e-mail asking about batted ball trajectory data. So far, no response. This mentions batted balls, so I’m hopeful:

That’s linked from the Call for Abstracts page.

I think my attendance hinges heavily on whether or not they’re tracking the full flight of the batted ball. If I could get a decent amount of Hit F/X data, as Peter says, that would also suffice.

Deadline to register is July 18.

#8          (see all posts) 2011/07/14 (Thu) @ 18:51

...and the deadline for submitting abstracts has passed.  I submitted one.  I am curious whether other readers of this thread have done likewise.  Unlike the three previous summits, I am not involved this year with the planning of technical talks.

#9    Brian Cartwright      (see all posts) 2011/07/15 (Fri) @ 00:26

Thanks for the reminder about the registration. I took care of it this afternoon. My wife and I have been planning this since last summer, and the money for the airplane tix will be in the proper account to be spent by Saturday...but I had overlooked a registration deadline. My wife would have been major pissed if I would have failed to register on time.

#10    Greg Rybarczyk      (see all posts) 2011/07/15 (Fri) @ 00:43

I’ve submitted an abstract.  Wouldn’t miss it.
