Request: MLB service time
I have a request for you guys, and hopefully someone will come through. I sent the following to someone at MLB, who was unwilling to assist. I don’t know why, since it doesn’t seem to be that difficult to figure, nor secret at all. Just a lot of time in some cases. Anyway, here’s what I’d like:
Would it be possible to get “first year eligible for free agency” for MLB players (active and inactive). Or, similarly, number of days of service accrued each year, that counts toward the free agency clock. That is, how can I tell when a guy like Joe Mauer (pre his last signing) would have first been eligible for free agency?
As an aside, I am always disappointed when one of my requests is rejected. I only target those that I have assisted in the past, since I figure I have currency built up. Kind of like The Godfather: “Someday, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day accept this justice as gift on my daughter’s wedding day.”
Cot’s Contracts has service time for most players.
The best, most consistent source that I’ve found is individual team media guides, but I only have the Red Sox.
I tired to get a BTF communal thread to have everyone buy one for thier team and share the data, but it didn’t pan out.
I’ve said it before, but with all of the incredible baseball data freely available on the web the biggest missing piece is accurate service time data.
I’ve never asked where the person who runs Cot’s gets his. He might be someone to ask although note that his figures are current through the beginning of this year.
