By Tangotiger, 10:50 AM

Knock one player off the ballot: Choose the LEAST Outstanding Player (however you wish to define outstanding).

I was so tempted to vote for Bert Blyleven.

#2    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2009/12/24 (Thu) @ 11:55

Someone did… why would that be the case?  You believe he was less outstanding than Appier?

#3    dlf      (see all posts) 2009/12/24 (Thu) @ 12:07

’twasn’t me, but the argument is likely one of two things:  1. irrational backlash against popular saber-opinion or 2. Blyleven’s actions in quitting the Pirates in mid season 1980 being seen as the moral equivilent to the Black Sox.  I personally downgrade Blyleven somewhat for that incident—similarly to the way I treat Sheffield stating he intentionally committed errors while playing in Milwaukee or Allen quitting in Chicago—but not enough to have him anywhere near Appier in value.

#4    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2009/12/24 (Thu) @ 12:28

Robin Ventura is now officially out with 16 votes, 10 more than Appier.

Votes for all other players remain.  For you guys who voted for Ventura, let me know if you can vote for someone else now.

#5    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2009/12/24 (Thu) @ 13:14

Appier is now out with 19 votes, 14 more than Dale Murphy.

All other votes have carried over.

"Someone did… why would that be the case?  “

My guess: Somebody didn’t read the instructions.

I’ve got Fangraphs also joining the fray, so if you see lots of numbers going up, that’s why…

Looks like McGwire v Edgar will be fascinating…

Raines v. Alomar v. Larkin is going to be a tough call…

Edgar knocked out.

Votes RESET.

No offense, Tango, but I thought the results were more interesting when it was just your readers.  Fangraphs attracts a much more diverse audience, and quite frankly, my impression of the comments there is not good (admittedly, people who comment are a self-selected sample that very well may not reflect the whole).

Still, I think it would have been interesting to compare Fangraphs results to Book blog results.

#14    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2009/12/25 (Fri) @ 00:20

Pat, yes, I would normally have run it concurrently for reasons of bias.  But, I was interested in getting turnout fast, and a consolidated ballot is what looked like the best solution.

I can’t disagree with you however.

Larkin knocked out.  Votes RESET.
