Panas’ sabermetric primer book

By Tangotiger, 05:56 PM

Lee asked me to review part or all of his book.  I gave him a few fixes / updates.  Looks like he’s finally published his book.  I’ll have to go through my notes to see what I said.  I’ll update this blog post when I do.

Sweet. Lee was the second Tigers blog I actively read when I started following sabermetrics more and more, so I’m hoping his book does well given the niche market it’s intended for.

MGL’s not gonna like this wink.

Lee also had me read a few sections a while back, especially on catcher defense.  I skimmed the rest as well, though, and found it to be a nice, general primer that will get you up to speed on a lot of modern sabermetric work--especially player valuation.  Good for him in getting it done!

Nick, what do you mean?  Not like what?  The book?

I was talking about the interview Tango linked.

More after the jump!

You mean the completely gratuitous and useless “more after the jump?”

Is that for the RSS feed?  Somehow that can’t be edited out of the web page or just added to the RSS feed?  And they can’t write, “rest of article on main page” in the RSS feed or something like that?

Anyway, the book is a great idea!  Let’s all collectively say out loud, “Why didn’t I think of that?” or “Why didn’t I not only think of it but actually do it?” I like the cover too!

The last part of this question made me laugh:

“You’ve brought another Tigers blogger into the fold, Samara Pearlstein of Roar of the Tigers, to do illustrations. What made you choose to bring her on board and what do you think of the job she did?”

Panas: Well, her illustrations were awful, but by the time I noticed it, it was too late and the book was already on the press.  Oh well, WTF…
