Name this blog?

By Tangotiger, 12:24 PM

Since at least two people have now commented on the name of this blog, I’ll open it up for suggestions.

First off, this blog has no name.  I didn’t even think to give it a name.  This site (Inside The Book dot com) started off simply to highlight The Book--Playing The Percentages In Baseball.  So “Inside” The Book is the reason the website URL is what it is.  And, of course, because TheBook.com was taken.  The blog came a couple of months after we released The Book.

Anyway, some people have come to call this place “The Book Blog”, or some other similar variation.  If you have an idea for a name, feel free to post it.  This is a brainstorming session, which means no idea is a bad idea, and no need to comment to that effect.  I’ll nominate the top five or six, open up a poll, then everyone can vote and decide.

Don’t let Stephen Colbert know about this.

I think the best thing would be to just stick with “The Book Blog.” That’s what people call it now, and changing it would confuse some and make others not realize what blog is being referred to. It might not be the best, most creative name, but I think it serves its purpose. Does anybody know whether Sean Combs is called Puff Daddy or P.Diddy? He tried to change it (as did Prince), and nobody really paid much attention to the switch.

And yes, I just compared your blog to a famous rap artist.

A quick Googling produces significantly more hits for “the book blog” than for “inside the book blog” (both searched as strings with quotes). However, almost all of the hits for “the book blog” are for other sites whereas almost all of the hits for “inside...” are for this site.  “inside… also seems to be the more popular name for links to the blog.

Although, when I search for ("the book blog” tango|MGL) I get about 3 times as many hits as for “inside...” and those all seem to link here.

In other words, the wisdom of the crowds approach seems to favor “Inside The Book Blog”. I find that a bit clunky.

Perhaps “Inside The Book: The Blog”

Yeah, totally screwed that one up.

“the book blog” : 51000 (lots of misses, though)
“the book blog” tango|MGL : 1700
“inside the book blog”: 900
“inside the book blog” tango|MGL 400

Everything in the last comment is accurate except for the 2nd to last paragraph.

The Book Blog

You already missed your chance to name it something else.

Keep the lack of an official name. Those who cite posts from here just keep refering to this corner of Al Gore’s invention as “The Book Blog”.

So “The Stephen Colbert The Book Blog” is out? Rats.

Does “ee” stand for something?

I just call it “Inside the Book.”

I guess I’ve never liked the word “blog” in general, it’s a little too nerdy: efficient, but not elegant.

Seems to me that the best course of action is to do nothing.  People are either already calling it informally how they want to based on variations of what’s in the url (Inside, The book, with the word Blog), or any name at all simply adds nothing.

This is great, since I get to keep criticizing “Sweetspot”.

Also, I hate movies that have a terrible movie name.  For example, “No country for old men”.  Good movie!  But it took me forever to watch it because of the title.  I have a long list of movies that I simply never gave it the chance because of the title.  No Country was an exception because of the “Wisdom of the Crowd” put it out front for me to see.  Had it not got any nominations, I don’t think I would have seen it.  They could have highlighted the cast better, too.

Rob Neyer is like Javier Bardem.  Josh Brolin at least.  I’ll keep going to Neyer’s movies…
