MLB ID database

By , 07:07 AM

Does anyone know of an up-to-date (including the 2011 season) web site (or some other place) that has MLB ID’s of players?

This one:

https://github.com/geoffharcourt/mlb_rosetta

Does not seem to be updated anymore.

And I don’t think the Lahman or BDB includes 2011. Does anyone know if those will be updated to include 2011?

I keep an updated list of mlbamid’s for Oliver. My player register also has Retrosheet (not yet updated for 2011), SABR milb (no longer updated by them, but used as milb id’s at b-ref), Westbay & NPB.

I’ve also got a longer list that to the best of my ability includes every mlbamid ever issued (almost 100k).

Ted Turocy has the Master Universal DB of Retro and MLBAM IDs.  That’s what I use.

Tom, I am updating MLB Rosetta this week for every player who appeared in an MLB or MiLB game next week.

Sorry, meant who appeared in a game last year.

Hi Geoff, do you need any help with this?  I’d love to help.

Geoff: note that MGL is the thread starter, not me.

In any case, aren’t you working with Ted?

Great stuff!

Thanks, guys!  Is MLBAM the same as MLBID?  Do they include minor league players who have never played in MLB?

MLBAM has an ID for just about anyone.  If a guy is drafted these days, he gets an ID.

So is MLBBAM ID the same as MLB ID?

#12    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2012/01/12 (Thu) @ 21:37

Yup, it is…

Or if he plays in the WBC or something like that, there are plenty of MLBAM IDs for Japanese and Cuban players.

The mlbam id was created for Gameday. Anyone who has played in a Gameday tracked game, be it MLB, minors, international or even colleges playing spring exhibitions has a number. Then they gave a mlbam id to anybody who has ever played in MLB. They are working back in time for the minor leaguers, I believe have at least the last 10-15 years worth of players covered so far.

The list I’ve collected has over 104,000 mlbam ids. There have been close to 300 times a player was given more than one number, but the vast majority of these have been corrected by abandoning one of the numbers.

Geoff/3 - Any update on this? And where is the data?

I found this link in an old thread here:
https://github.com/geoffharcourt/mlb_rosetta

But that says the last update was a year ago.
Also, when I try to view the file mlb_rosetta.csv, I get a mostly blank page saying “Error: blob is too big”

Thanks much!
