Minor style changes

By Tangotiger, 01:43 PM

I added the 10 most recent comments on the sidebar.

For those who prefer going to the bottom of the page and find the 20 most recents comments, plus other archive navigation, those have been left untouched.

If there are any recommendations, please post here.

To me it would be far more intuitive on the left, even though it’s on the right on bbtf.

Love it being there though.  I hated trying to find the recent comments thing before.  Thumbs up.

I also added the latest threads started on the side.  You may find it easier to navigate the front page that way.

I have this weird knack for being able to remember how many comments there were on a thread when I last checked it. But I do like this feature so that I don’t have to scroll down a million posts to check on a thread from earlier.

Would it be possible to add the sidebar to article pages as well?  That is, so that we could see the recent comments even on this page.

Done.

For some reason, it chops off after one thread listing (though it shows all 10 comments).  I’ll have to check it out…

Ok, it seems that it would only show whatever thread you are in.  So, I took that out, and you can see the last 10 comments.

Perfect!

I’m still having mad problems in Firefox.  Any page (this site only) other than the blog home page gets squished to the left and the font is really small and hard to read.  Plus at the top, some of the text that should be on the right (I think) overlaps text on the left.  The entire right half of the page is totally blank (with everything squished to the left).  This just started a few weeks ago all of a sudden.

In IE everything is fine.

Anyone know what’s going on?

Never mind.  Problem fixed!  I guess at some point in time, I accidentally hit something that “zoomed” some page or pages on this site.  And I guess Firefox “remembered” that setting every time I revisited it.  Heck, I even re-installed Firefox and it still remembered it.  I don’t know if that is good or bad.  Anyway, I went to “view”, “zoom” and “reset” on the toolbar and everything is OK now!

I don’t use IE, but for some reason I just checked your site on it and the new recent comments on the right side isn’t there and the dates and times on the comments are on 2 lines instead of one like Firefox.  Doesn’t really bother me since I always use Firefox but just thought I’d tell you.  Or maybe it’s just my computer.

Weird.  I see it the same way in both browsers.  Both at home and at the office.

The sidebar is showing in Firefox but not Internet Explorer. It could probably be due to the fact that I’m using an older version of Internet Explorer (6.0).

I too can attest to some of the issues that terpsfan and MGL are having.  The visibility of the recent comments are hit or miss (mostly miss) with IE 6.0.  I can see them fine in Mozilla.

I also experience the “squish left” issue.  It seems to be related to the insertion of quotes.  Everytime someone quotes something, it pushes the text of all subsequent posts further left.  If enough quotes are made, the text eventually pushes outside of the boxes and off the screen completely.  Again, this is only IE.  Mozilla is fine.
