Liveblog World Series Game 4

By Tangotiger, 06:17 PM

This is my first try at this, so please bear with me if things act a bit funky.

It looks like I haven’t figured out the Frame version.  However, if you click here, you should be able to start chatting right away.

I tried making a test post from the link you provided. There was a hang-up for about 5 minutes and the post never loaded. I’ll try again using Firefox

I don’t believe that it is a chat. I think you guys (Tango, MGL) get to decide what gets posted. It tells you this if you click on the “i” icon.

Between my mom’s house and home, I lost the ability to use the chat.

I posted this in the chat but it didn’t go through (I don’t think):

MGL “Can we also stop hearing about how Sonnastine makes the most of his 89 moh fastball?  One, that is not all that slow.  Two, he is an average pitcher at best. If you are an average pitcher with an 89 mph fastball, you are not making much of that fastball.”

How is Sonnanstine an average pitcher at best?  He had a 3.98 FIP and 117 tRA+ this year and his last year (rookie season) he a 4.35 FIP and 106 tRA+.

And when you look at all the starters in the past 3 years with at least 100 IP according fangraphs he ranks 203 out 234 in velocity.

I agree Sean. I tend to think Sonnanstine is above average, and at least better than Blanton, whom MGL seems to like. The chat moderators need to let some questions through.

I don’t think MGL is paying attention to the comment queue. None of my comments are making it through either.

I’m not sure MGL knows about the comment queue, or has access to it.

For tomorrow’s game, at least one person needs to be logged-in as host/producer to moderate the comments.

Any other suggestions?

The software allows me to invite 5 people, via email, to be a “producer” or “panelist”.  A Producer has the ability to moderate all comments.  A panelist gets to have his comments posted right away.  So, for those who want this access, email me at tom~tangotiger~net, and I’ll set you up.  I’ll reserve one for MGL, and the first four of you to ask will be moderators.

The software also allows me (or any of the Producers) to designate 10 userids, after they login (and I think they can’t logout) as being able to post their comments unmoderated.  So, first 10 people who login (and say logged in) will get this privilege.  I’ll make the thread live at 7:30.

So, that’s 15 people who will be able to post stuff without seeing it moderated.

The software also highlights in a different color those comments that are not part of the main 15 people, so that’s cool too.  I really like this software…

#10    MGL      (see all posts) 2008/10/27 (Mon) @ 12:40

I like the software, and it worked out great last night, other than the fact that only 10 people can post without being moderated (it is a pain to manually allow a person’s comment).  This software is not set up for large chats.  Only for small ones, and chats where you get hundreds or thousands of comments and questions sent in.

How tough would it be for them to have a feature that allows all comments to be posted automatically or for the moderator or producer to allow more than 10 unmoderated participants?  I mean, I use the thing 1 time and find what seems to me to be a major flaw!  Are we the first ones to ever use this software that would like more than 10 people to be able to participate without moderation?

This is free software, and I can only guess that if you want the paid licenced version that you get to have expanded features.

As well, it seems to be setup as a liveblogging software (that is its motto!), and not chat software.  Obviously, they can have a chat version, and I’m sure if you pay them, they would.

http://www.coveritlive.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61

It’s not chat, an open thread or a reader forum. It’s a live blog using CoveritLive. We think your readers visit your site to read what you have to say on issues or events that are important to them. With that said, there is a time and a place during a live blog where you should be able to take questions and comments from your readers...immediately. The important point here is that the writer stays in control of the content so it doesn’t go completely off the rails.
