Jack Marshall

By Tangotiger, 11:09 AM

A professor of ethics wrote an article on the Hardball Times website, to which there are many many many comments, which have also spilled over to Keith Law’s blog.

Amateur psychology alert!  I can see where he would use Festinger’s work on cognitive dissonance, although he over-simplifies it to a point of not being accurate any more.  There’s a comment on BallHype (and a response from Marshall) that discusses some of the technical details.  But even then, I just don’t think cog disonance fully applies to the question of why teams didn’t actually sign Bonds.  I would encourage folks to look over Maslow’s hierarchy of needs instead.

On the BBTF thread on this article, a professor of philosophy who specializes in moral philosophy has a few nice quick posts showing why Marshall’s arguments are completely question begging.
