iTunes baseball app

By Tangotiger, 07:54 PM

This fellow wrote to me, and said that if you post in the comments (in my thread) asking for a promo code, he’ll give you one.

I would then like you to post on his site, and review it.  Be honest.

I’ll fix that.  The URL takes precedence.  Gimme a sec.

Perfect, thanks Tom…

#11          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 20:59

Mike,

Any plans for an Android version?

#12          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 21:07

statmattmitchell/11, if there’s enough demand for it, absolutely. This version should be a pretty good test of the overall market, so if this one sells well, I would think an Android app would definitely be on my agenda.

#13          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 21:14

Mike,

I’d love a code too.

Just bought this app and I love it. Was waiting for an offline stat app like this.

A few suggestions to make it completely perfect:
1) Make it easier to navigate between hitters and pitchers
2) Add UZR or some fielding metric...some fielding stats
3) Add GB% for pitchers
4) WAR!!
5) Sorting A to Z, or by position

Thanks for making this! Love it…

#18          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:26

Have just a couple more left (been getting a bunch of emails off-list ).

Also, thanks to everybody who’s responded with feedback, it is incredibly helpful.

#19          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:26

If there are still codes available, getting one would be great. No matter what, very nice of Mike to share like this.

#20          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:30

Thanks very much Rob H./17, will definitely look to add sorting/navigating options, and hopefully add to the data as well.

#21          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:31

I’d love to try it if you have any codes left.  Thanks!

#22          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:37

i’d like one, too. thanks!

#23          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 22:43

Hey guys, sorry to say I’m officially out of promo codes. I’m pretty sure I get some more whenever there’s an update to the app—not sure when that will be (it just got approved yesterday), but I’ll definitely try to save some for this blog when that does come about.

I really value this community’s opinion, and I can’t thank Tango enough for giving the app some run here. Also, much thanks to the people who have responded with feedback, it is really invaluable and I appreciate it tremendously.

Damn, missed the promo! Oh well, you made a couple bucks by running out of codes, as I just bought the app instead.

#25          (see all posts) 2011/09/08 (Thu) @ 23:20

Thanks Mr Cthulu! Much appreciated.

I received one of the promo codes, and I’ve sent feedback to Mike. For others coming upon this thread, know that this app is really well done. It’s simple in design and easy to use, but it’s got lots of well=presented information. It’s fast. Really fast. And since the data is from Retrosheet, you know that updated stats are never more than a few hours away.

Thanks to Mike at Baseball Mobile for producing and sharing this work, and thanks to Tango for posting this.

Well, the presentation is nice, and you can scroll alo the stat like. Personally, I could care less about getting WAR on my iPad, and would breakdowns (left/right and home/road slash lines) that tell me something about the player in question. Ground ball rates for both hitters and pitchers, and some quick fielding data, maybe fielding percentage, the overall and arm and DP ratings that bb-ref.com uses, and caught stealing percentages for pitchers and catchers.

You could also stand more lines than just the two (regular/sabermetric) of the ones you do have, but after a point, you’re better off giving a link to bb-ref.com or Retrosheet for more. Though you could enhance things for the iPad screen size as well, which allows for more stats. (I have an iPad, not an iPhone, FYI, so I got to look on one.)
