Instructions for Cy Young

By Tangotiger, 07:16 AM

Well, ain’t that a kick: I call my awards the Most Outstanding Player awards to try to make it as individualized and separated from rest of team as possible.  Thanks Bob.

Tom:

Read your comments regarding instructions for the Cy Young Award ballot.

There are no instructions attached to the ballot beyond the requirement of submitting the ballot before postseason starts and to not reveal your ballot until the voting is announced.

The plaque is inscribed: The Outstanding American League Pitcher 2010. (or National League, of course.)

Hope this clarifies things for you.

nice of Bob to offer that.

Would he care to list the instructions for MVP voting, too?

I have seen those several times around the web in the past couple of years.  Should be easy enough to find.  Look for things like “character”, and you will probably find it.

That was easy:

thanks

those don’t seem much more helpful than what the CY instructions say.
although #2 (number of games played) would seem to lend support to voters who don’t believe pitchers should be MVPs.

In one sense, the Cy instructions are more clear cut, since the title on the trophy “most outstanding” leaves little room for discussion.

The MVP instructions are a hodge-podge of things that are so ambiguous.  Indeed, had they simply said “Vote on the Most Outstanding Player”, and leave it at that, it’d be clearer.
