Hot hand free throws

By Tangotiger, 01:09 PM

Study:

Over all 5 seasons examined there is a improvement in the second attempt success rate conditioned that the first attempt was good. This data is for the mean of the individual level, eliminating any skew of the results due to aggregation.

And data is made available.

Glove-slap: mettle.

I tried to wade through the article; the main thing I was interested in was how large the observed effect was. The extremeley large sample size allows for a minor, insignificant difference to show up as “statistically significant.”

I didn’t realize that what I copy/pasted lost the numbers!  It was an image I guess.

Anyway, it was a couple of percentage points.  Like 2-3% or something.
