Hall of Merit

By Tangotiger, 02:37 PM

What Sky proposes has pretty much been established by Hall of Merit.  While HoM operates on elect-2 and elect-3, Sky is going with elect-1 and elect-2.  Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same framework (unless I’m missing something).

Personally, I would go for eligibility by birth year: once you turn 45, you are eligible.  I think it’s beyond silly for Kirby Puckett to be in an earlier class of players than Rickey, Gwynn and Raines, when Kirby is younger and started later.  The double-bonus is Nolan Ryan could be an active HOF.  I love it that Lemieux, Howe, and Lafleur were such players.
