dave - No, read rule 7.08 a(1). The baseline is established when the tag attempt begins and is the line between the runner and the base he is attempting to reach, not beteween third base and home plate in this case. He must leave the baseline by more than three feet for the purpose of avoidng the tag to be called out. Obviously not the case here.
Hrm… I clicked on this post because I anticipated a slide show, perhaps featuring some charts, figures, graphs, and words like “presuppose.”

Umpires are pretty liberal when it comes to the “out of the baseline” rule, and I have never seen it called on a slide.
I am always amazed when a player is able to execute a great evasive slide in a split second in the heat of the moment…
