FTP program

By Tangotiger, 11:34 AM

Retrosheet noted that after transferring half a million files, Ipswitch caused a mismatch in the filenames and file contents of several of those files.  That’s a good success rate, but not the 100% that is needed.

Can you guys share your success stories in the FTP software that you use.  I’m talking about moving tens of thousands of files at a time.  I know I time out alot with Ipswitch, and I move just a few thousand files at a time.  In terms of cost, I’d say anything under 50$ would be ok, though free is always preferred.

That’s a terrible success rate. As you noted, 100% is the only acceptable standard. I never have to do anything this large, so SCP or SFTP is fine for me.  Therefore, I can only suggest a free solution, like FileZilla:

Fantastic, thank you.

The only one with at least a 4.5 star rating from both the editors and the users.

I’ll second filezilla.  I used it when I needed to upload a few thousand pages for my APBA league’s encyclopedia.  Worked like a charm.

FlashFXP is the best FTP program I’ve ever used.  I’ve never had a problem with it and I’ve uploaded more than 10,000 files at a time before.  I think it costs about $25 or $35.

Really? I find FlashFXP to be somewhat annoying at times. Admittedly I only transfer one or two files at a time, albeit very large ones.

As I said, I’ve never had a problem with it.  The truth is that a lot of it depends on how solid your internet connection is.  I’ve used probably more than 20 FTP programs and none of them compare to FXP in my opinion.  The free ones around are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Anyway, that’s my opinion on it.  If you’ve had other luck with it, that’s too bad.
