Free online Saber course

By Tangotiger, 12:25 PM

Well, well, well.  Just a super-fantastic idea.  Really, I mean just awesome

I was thinking wiki.  I was thinking the various primers and libraries.  But, the layout here is just so cool.  Now, all we need to do is refine it and we’re got the one-stop shopping place we’ve been meaning to have.

I also got this link, but I can’t see it from the office.

Glove-slap: Shawn.

It was all Shawn’s idea and I just threw something together.  It’s still a little skimpy in areas and I’m sure there are articles I missed that should be included, so don’t hesitate with the feedback.  I’d love to hear ideas on what could be done to improve it.

Thanks Tango!

Awesome concept.  I haven’t had a chance to take a close look at the site yet, but it’s near the top of my bookmarks list so i should get to it soon.

Great idea and nice job!  This is mostly a review of some of the latest stats--personally, I think it would be neat to have a bunch of key historic articles in here, too, and some more background on sabermetric principles.

Right, I mean as a skeleton, it’s fantastic.  It can only grow and get better.

Nothing is stopping people from turning this into SABR 101 - Pitching
SABR 101 - fielding
SABR 202 - Advanced Pitching
etc, etc

It’s just so beautiful in terms of layout.  It could become the defacto model for teaching sabermetrics.

That’s my general idea too.  You could make this sort of thing huge if you tried to include everything, so I limited my scope to getting people in the door, explaining some of the most important sabermetric principles, and then delving into some of the most important statistics.  It’s already pretty long as it is, so I didn’t want to make it longer and risk turning people off.

I figure I can beef this template up a bit in places (I would like to include a couple more intro and principles articles), but I think the best way to grow would be for people to make multiple courses.  You could have in-depth courses on just offense and just pitching, and I’d absolutely love to see one put together on Pitch f/x.

If I have time, I may try to throw a couple other courses together during the next couple weeks.  But if other people want to try, the socrated.com site is ridiculously easy to use.  The course may look impressive, but it didn’t take me long at all to actually put it together.
