Did IE8 remove all my Microsoft shortcuts in Start / Programs?

By Tangotiger, 01:46 PM

It sure looks like that.  After installing IE8 (and rebooting, obviously) on XP3, when I do Start/Programs, (presumably) all my non-Microsoft shortcuts are still there.  But, Word, Excel, etc are gone!  Before I go and try to figure out what shortcuts have been removed beyond the obvious ones, I’d like to know of people who have experienced what I have.

I’ve tried to google, but I’m not getting much.  It looks like IE8 is optimized with Microsoft’s latest O/S (Microsoft 7), and it has some new behaviour with regards to the Desktop / Taskbar.  I presume therefore that it has a few extra design “features” like what I’ve experienced.

Were they thrown into a new directory? Windows likes to throw everything in “Windows Live” now.  Or sometimes under “Microsoft Products.”

Sidenote: What the fark is with MS and all their mail programs? I’m at work right now where we use Vista (ugh,) and I see:

-Windows Live Mail
-Outlook Express
-Microsoft Office Outlook

What the...? Just pick one!
