Daily Patterns in PITCHf/x

By Tangotiger, 04:31 PM

Ooooooh… I like this presentation.  You get to see the pitcher’s fastball speed game by game, along with his range within game (those ranges I believe are the 25th to 75th percentiles… if not, that’d be nice to show), along with this vertical and horizontal movements.  All on one graph.  Very very nice.

His home/road comment may simply be one of data quality.

Tom,

I am glad you liked the plot.  There is another more in-depth talk about Carlos Marmol’s wear pattern here:

http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/anatomy-of-a-player-carlos-marmol/

The error bars are the standard deviation for each outing but I can use 25-75% if you think that would be better.  Also, I highly doubt this is a data quality issue as the data should be corrected here and none of the other Brewer pitchers show such strange behavior.

Seems like you may have been onto something about in what situations Marmol should be used, Josh, because he just imploded against the Giants (of all teams) with a five-run lead in the 9th.
