Yeah, I e-mailed the guy and he told me he was trying to be joking about the name-change “issue”. That was somewhat my mistake in, um, misreading (?), since the whole article sounded serious until the 2nd-to-last paragraph, which didn’t process very well in my mind.
Actually, one of my pre-season “predictions” was that performing that exorcism would make TB a winning team. So, not only did getting the H out of there help the team, I’m also psychic. Not bad.
Also, the fallacy that you’re thinking about isn’t “correlation isn’t causation” but “post hoc ergo propter hoc”
Yeah, there really is no “correlation” here except as we use the word in the vernacular.

I think the article is somewhat of a parody, but it is well-written (by a journalism student).
One thing though:
The Rays split the first two games of their seven-game series with the Red Sox in the American League Championship Series. Game four will be played tomorrow afternoon in Boston.
