Clubhouse Confidential

By Tangotiger, 12:02 PM

Brian Kenny is turning into a saberist’s best friend.  He has had Vince Gennaro, Joe Sheehan, Jay Jaffe, among others, and all have contributed positively.  Now, it’s Dave Cameron’s turn on the hot seat.

Why aren’t you on those kind of shows using some the stats you invented like WPA and UZR?

#2    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2012/01/16 (Mon) @ 16:01

UZR is MGL’s, but as to your main point: it’s just not my thing.

Tango, you mean you have been asked but you declined?

#4    Tangotiger      (see all posts) 2012/01/16 (Mon) @ 16:46

I decline all TV and radio interviews, limiting myself to email only.

Tango going on TV explaining how he invented UZR would be like Bruce Wayne explaining on TV how he invented the Ironman suit smile

Actually the sabermetric superhero analogy works surprisingly well.  Tangotiger is our Batman.  He chooses to keep his secret identity hidden, and that’s completely fine.  Someone like MGL is more like Ironman.  The world knows that Ironman is Tony Stark just as we know MGL is Mitchel Lichtman.  Both are effective in their own ways at fighting the evils of baseball ignorance.

Yesterday’s episode mentioned an upcoming appearance by The Book’s Mitchel Lichtman.

Cool. MGL do you know when you’ll be on?  Is it tonight?

I am supposed to be on Feb. 9. I guess since they announced it, that means that I didn’t completely throw up on the air, and I will in fact be on (and not left on the editing room floor).

Let me know how it is. I don’t like to watch or listen to myself.

Some people can print a screen capture of my face and pin it on their dart board…

Can you say what the general topic was?  Fielding?

#9    MGL      (see all posts) 2012/01/28 (Sat) @ 05:08

He was interested in The Book topics.  He asked me about batting order, IBB, and not letting pitchers bat.

What I talked about wasn’t earth shattering.  Basic stuff in The Book. And I probably got half of it wrong.

He wants to do more The Book topics. I think he should have a regular segment on The Book.  What do you think of that idea? Or is that giving away too much for free?

We should see a spike in sales after the segment airs…

Very interesting.  I don’t think talking about it for 5 minute segments is giving anything away for free.  It’s a good idea actually.
