Casey Kotchman line

By Tangotiger, 05:58 PM

Kotchman’s last four teams: Redsox, Mariners, Rays, Indians.  Can we say that a team that signs Kotchman is saber-leaning?

What other players have played for at least three teams over a four season period, and we can say was only given a shot because of the saber-tendency of team management?

Carlos Pena has primarily played for the A’s, Rangers, and Rays. Although I think perhaps he may have been with the Rangers pre-saber-y front office.

He also played for a widely respected GM in Dombrowski and of course Jim Hendry.

And I forgot his very short stint with the Red Sox. So he’s definitely been with Beane, Epstein, and Friedman plus Dombrowski and Hendry.

Jack Cust will probably join the club this year.

#4    Bukanier      (see all posts) 2012/02/02 (Thu) @ 18:47

Jack Hannahan in Oakland, Seattle and Cleveland.

Adam LaRoche in Pittsburgh, Boston and Arizona.

Akinori Iwamura in Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and Oakland.

Bobby Crosby probably doesn’t make it, as non-saber teams would also have had him around as long as the A’s.

Jeremy Hermida in Boston, Oakland and San Diego

Dana Eveland in Oakland, Toronto and Pittsburgh

Interesting list so far.  Saber leaning teams like older injury prove vets.

I should say we should limit the players to those signed for at most 2 years.  Having Beltre in there kinda goes against the basic idea here.

#6 lists 17 teams.  I’m assuming from the brackets that you’re excluding the White Sox and Nationals, but that still 1/2 of all clubs.  I’m wondering what type of criteria we’re using to categorize a team as saber-leaning vs. non-saber-leaning.

I simply went off of what I have heard about the teams or what we know. For example, where the Mets are listed, it’s based on Alderson being the GM (as opposed to when Minaya was in that position). Likewise, we have strong, early indicators that the new Astros front office is interested in using advanced statistical analysis (hence, Zach Duke).
