Bleg: who had Tommy John?

By Tangotiger, 08:00 PM

Jeff would like to know.

Mariano Rivera did not have the surgery, despite how often this is cited.

#3, what is the difference between your list and Jeff’s and did all the guys on your list other than Axford, Baily, and Robertson have the surgery while in the majors?  Minors or majors?  Do you have the dates?

#5    NaOH      (see all posts) 2011/04/08 (Fri) @ 00:58

Jeff wrote at the top of his post that at this point he’s simply trying to build a complete list of pitchers who’ve had TJ surgery. I was merely posting additional names of pitchers known to have had the procedure. As for whether the players were in the majors or dates, I don’t have that info except for a couple I happen to know (like Wainwright and Proctor), but web searching can reveal this for most. If you’d like the list updated with that, just give the word and a day or so.

Thanks NaOH - I will starting putting dates and results to the players.  This is going to be a huge pain in the ass, but that is why no one else has done the work and made it available to the public.

Jeff,

Can you send me an e-mail at:

pontifexexmachina at gmail dot com

Thanks.

Jeff,

I have a full list that I compiled for an article I wrote in The Hardball Times Annual 2008. E-mail me if you’d like it. I believe it’s over 200 players, going back to Tommy John himself.

David, can you email that to me too?  Thanks!

With the help NaOH, Colin, David and others, I was able to get a list of ~350 players that had at least one TJS and have the exact surgery dates (5/5/2005) on about 5% of them.  The NaOH and I are going to start going through all of instances and try to get all the exact surgury dates.  If anyone is willing to help in any amount please let me know (wydiyd ~ hotmail).  The help would be greatly appreciated.
