Bias in PITCHf/x?

By Tangotiger, 09:32 AM

Self-named replacement-level PITCHf/x-ers Harry Pavlidis (*) points out:

Ken Takahashi and Brian Stokes both pitched in relief of Santana on Sunday, and we happen to have another game (May 11) from Citi Field where all three pitched.

Talk about the fantastic luck to find the same three pitchers who pitched in two different games, with the game we are most interested in be one of those games.

(*) Harry three months ago called himself a replacement-level PITCHf/x-er.  I have no idea if it was true then, and if it was, it simply shows what dedication, inspiration and hard work can do to turn such a baseball fan into a quality analyst.

Harry is far too modest. He was over replacement level then, and is WAY over now.

I thought Harry was going to go into detail about how he made park corrections.  Did I miss that in the article?

And, yes, I agree Harry is way over replacement level!

Thanks guys

Alan, that’s part 2. Part 1 got too big to go into the actual corrections.

Harry is too modest. I honestly think Harry, Dan (?) Brooks and Dave Allen are next in line for whatever MLB team decides to poach some Pitchf/x analyst from the internet. And I’ll be sad when that happens.

Not sure if Brooks is in line. He provides an awesome service, but doesn’t really provide much analysis. If he classified his own pitches instead of just taking the gameday ones, it could be another story.

Still, gotta love Brooks.

Zach, I can understand that viewpoint. I’m just going on the assumption that he’d have the abilities to do so if he wanted, but maybe that’s a big assumption? Either way, love his sight (and Harry and Dave’s articles).

Agreed.

Harry is at least 5 WAR.

The thing I absolutely love about Brooks is that I can hop on there during a game and view the information at any time.  So if I want to see how a pitcher did in the 3rd inning all I have to do is hit refresh and the data is updated.
