CC, efficient pitcher
For a guy that big, for a guy who has that many strikeouts, CC sure is efficient in his pitches. Did you know that while CC faced 13 more batters than Verlander, Verlander has thrown 361 more pitches? Verlander is basically weaving through traffic throwing 4.1 pitches per batter, while CC is staying in his lane throwing 3.6, and they are both getting to the finish line at the same time.
They both have similar number of K, identical number of walks, similar number of extra base hits allowed. The major difference is that the Yankees have allowed FIFTY more singles than the Tigers have, when CC and Verlander are on the mound. And of all the pitcher’s stats that have the least to do with the pitcher himself, singles allowed is close to the top. What we ATTRIBUTE to the pitcher should, in large part, be attributed to the team. Usually.
In the specific cases of Verlander and CC? Well, I’d be happy to see the eye test on that. An eye test on each and every 1B. Would someone like to review the 102 singles of Verlander and the 152 singles of Sabathia to see how much were really linked to the pitcher, and how much were linked to their fielders? I am PROPOSING an eye test. I just need someone to actually count. Are there eye test believers out there? Here’s your chance. I’ll even accept nose-sniffing believers, if they want to tackle this.
