Can a former GM possibly be THAT dumb?
OK, maybe Hawk Harrelson can, but he was a GM a LONG time ago.
Steve Phillips said that if he were the Nationals, he would trade Strasburg for Oswalt. Putting aside the argument about who is likely to be the better pitcher for the next few years, is it possible that Phillips does not know that if you acquire Oswalt you have to pay him 15-17 mil a year until 2011 or 2012 (there is a mutual option in 2012), and that the Nats don’t have to pay Strasburg more than $400,000 for 2 or 3 years? Can he possibly not know that you don’t just acquire players, that you actually have to pay them too? Can he possibly not know that all players don’t get paid the same amount of money?
Steve, if you are the Nats and you DON’T trade for Oswalt, not only do you get to keep Strasburg, who may or may not end up being as good as or better than Oswalt, you have an extra 15 or 16 mil a year to spend on OTHER players! Does someone really need to tell this moron that?
