“But the goal should be a palatable balance between hitting and defense.”

By Tangotiger, 06:33 PM

”...And I find the current balance perfectly palatable.”, says Rob Neyer.

To me, the beauty of baseball, is that you can have Tim Raines and Gary Carter on the same field, and each can be equals overall. Vince Coleman and Adam Dunn on the same field would be nice.  For that to happen, the cost of outs on SB can’t be so high.  And for that to happen, runs per game has to get closer to 4.0 than to 5.0.

Playoff baseball has the right balance, and they score 4 runs per game.  That’s what baseball should be.
