Belated congratulations to Dan Uggla’s impressive summer performance!

By Tangotiger, 10:00 AM

Dear Mr Uggla,

I am so sorry to have missed out on your July-August performance, and so, a very belated congratulations.  I did not realize that you had a .354 batting average, with a very impressive .440 OBP and a .660 SLG.  These are MVP-type of numbers, and so, it deserves the spotlight.

No, it’s not a .355 batting average, but a .354 batting average.  Who’s telling you that it’s a .355 batting average?  Look, I have it right here.  From July 3 to Aug 18, you put up a .354 batting average.

What do you mean that since today is Aug 11, 2011, then that means that Aug 18 is the future, so I must be wrong.  Wait a minute.  Are we talking about 2010 or 2011?

Did you know that from July 3 to Aug 18 (in 2010), you put up those numbers in 40 games?  That’s pretty impressive.

Wait, what’s that?  Your 2011 is what’s getting all the attention?  Let’s see, from July 5 to Aug 10, in 31 games, you have a .355 batting average (sounds suspiciously like what you did in the summer of 2010), with a .409 OBP and .685 SLG.

Well, that is pretty impressive too.  Not as impressive as what you did in 2010, but pretty good too.

Again, so sorry for missing out on your summer of 2010, and I hope that everyone that is congratulating you for your summer of 2011 is also doing so for your summer of 2010.

Wait, what?  You mean just because you happen to string your performances in such a way that you got a base hit in 31 straight games, people are impressed with that, and are congratulating you for it.  But what you did in 2010, which is even more impressive, received far less attention?

I guess it’s not supposed to make too much sense.

Good luck, and again, belated congratulations on your summer of 2010.

Tom
