Wisdom of the Crowds v Power of the People

By Tangotiger, 05:03 PM

For many many years, the top four defensemen in the NHL have been Scott Niedermayer, Niklas Lidstrom, Chris Pronger, and Rob Blake, with the aging Blake dropping out of the running this year.  The other guys are the Big Three.  Tomas Kaberle might be the newest fourth muskateer, or maybe it’ll be Dion Phaneuf, or a few other D.  Still too early to tell.

But, not if the people have a say in it.  Of the top four defensemen from fan balloting for the all-star game, three are the Big Three.  Hats off to the Wisdom of the Crowds.  The other guy in the running, who was in 2nd place (top 2 are guaranteed a spot), but has now dropped to third, is the, obviously beloved, Rory Fitzpatrick, who has 232 career games (equivalent of almost three full seasons), and will be 32 when the All-Star Game is played.  A journeyman if ever there was one.  Hats off to the Power of the People.  Hey, if Stephen Colbert can win the contest (but lose on a technicality) to name Hungary’s newest bridge after himself, anything is possible.
