Minority stake in baseball-reference.com sold!
FSV paid a low seven-figure sum, according to industry sources, for the minority interest in Sports Reference, the Pennsylvania-based outfit that runs the popular baseball destination along with four other reference sites.
FSV is also involved with Hardball Times, Baseball Prospectus among many many many others.
Sean says:
Their belief in the Sports Reference brand and their investment give us a clear path to expand and improve on the sites over the next 3-6 years. We will continue to operate the company and the sites while looking to FSV for advice and expertise, so there is no change in our company structure or decision making process. Just more data, more tools and more features. This just means we are much more likely to hire some new talent and add more sites much sooner than we might have been able to otherwise.
Good for Sean. For all you guys who ask me how to get into the MLB business: forget that. Just do what Sean does. You’ll be more successful.
