Are TV broadcasters lazy?

By Tangotiger, 06:07 PM

I’m watching the Indians / Yanks game on YES, and they kept showing the same stats for every PA: AVG, HR, RBI, OBP.

The OBP was very welcome, naturally.

Why would we need to see RBI, if the bases are empty?  When you watch an NHL game, do they show the number of penalty in minutes for someone on the powerplay?  Over the last 30 years, what they’ve learned is to add OBP to the stat list?

They had a runner on 3B in the early innings.  Do you know what would be nice?  How about % of time the runner from 3B scores with less than 2 outs with that batter (over his career) and show the league average.  Just something, anything, that provides more context than showing AVG, HR, RBI.

Why be so lazy and uninspired?
