Are 50-50 donation drives good or bad?
I never thought about it in those terms.
Basically, you are agreeing that exactly 50% of your money will be donated, and you are gambling on the other 50%. So, if you put in 20$, you are agreeing to donate 10$, and bet the other 10$. As a non-betting person, the most I’d want to bet is 2$, which would mean that I can only contribute 4$. If I REALLY wanted to donate 18$ and gamble 2$, then.... well, I can’t do it.
As the person in the above article notes, they are not equipped to handle that. Well, at least not at the fund raiser. Instead, you have to find another avenue for that donation, by which time, you are at home, and have already forgotten about it.
The reality is that you should be allowed to say how much you donate and how much you bet. But, would then people want to bet the whole thing, thereby bypassing the reason for the fund raiser?
