This is a really cool project, a joint-venture with Hardball Times. Please go to my site where there is a link to Hardball Times to read up on the project, or simply vote right away.
The reason we are running it on two sites is that we want to control for demographics, since people who go to THT won’t necessarily come here. Feel free to vote at either site. It’s really alot of fun.
And, I’ve got some really cool ideas to extend this to other things. The possibilities are really endless.
I asked Mariner fans (.599) and non-Mariner fans (.666) what they forecasted in OPS for Vidro the rest of the way. Marcel also chimed in with a .707. Check in at Baseball Musings as we track his development, starting from July 14, 2008 to the end of the season, and see who provides the most insight.
Note: Mariner fans vote here.
Everyone is a yapper, until you are forced to put your money down, or be clear and decisive. As we saw a few weeks ago, an early start with outworldly K/BB numbers is a harbinger of good things. But, how good? That is, how much are you willing to pay for it? So, if you were a GM and Cliff Lee were a free agent today, how much would you offer him on a 4-yr deal?
Vote for how many years, and the total contract value, for ARod’s next contract:

Congratulations, Willie F. Bloomquist!
Hardcore fans have seen through your .257 career batting average, and focused on your .312 OBP and extremely ugly .329 SLG. You can’t even bunt very well (.250 average, which hardly compares to the league leader, Ichiro, at .475, or a crop of decent bunters in the .300-.350 range). While you know how to steal a base (50 for 58), and are adequate on the field with the glove, you are the epitomy of a replacement-level player. You also saved yourself too much embarrassment by performing well in the clutch. But, we don’t expect that to last.
You have come to bat 1000 times already, and played the field an equivalent 250 full games. You’ve played practically every position on the field, so that we would be spared being given an indelible impression for too long. Even Robert Downey Jr envies the number of chances you’ve been given. It’s time for the Mariners brass, and all of MLB, to see you for what you are: the 750th best player in baseball. Angel Berroa and Cristian Guzman thank you.
